In our mission to build a more just and equitable South Africa, transparency and trust are our cornerstones. It is in this spirit that we address our community today regarding the digital environment we all navigate together.
The #ReclaimSA movement is built on the powerful voices of its members. Protecting those voices is not just a priority—it is our duty. Recently, we have identified heightened technological challenges and potential vulnerabilities across some of our digital communication channels.
While we have robust systems in place, the evolving nature of digital security requires constant vigilance. Therefore, we are issuing a firm advisory to all our participants, supporters, and stakeholders.
Immediate Advisory: Safeguarding Your Privacy
Your safety is non-negotiable. We strongly advise all members to take the following precautions on public or semi-public platforms (including Discord, WhatsApp groups, and social media):
- Avoid using your real name. Use a pseudonym or first name only.
- Refrain from using an identifiable personal photograph as your profile picture.
- Be cautious about sharing any personally identifiable information (e.g., phone numbers, specific locations, places of work).
This is not a cause for alarm, but a standard and proactive measure in our risk management strategy. The internet, while a powerful tool for organisations, is not always a secure space. Empowering you with this knowledge is key to our collective security.
Our Stance: Peaceful Advocacy in a Watchful World
We operate with the understanding that our movement, which champions accountability and transparency, is itself being watched. We affirm that silence in the face of injustice is complicity, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to peaceful advocacy, civic engagement, and the lawful expression of our democratic rights.
Any attempts to suppress lawful dissent or silence legitimate concerns only serve to underscore the critical importance of our work.
Your Protection is Our Protocol
#ReclaimSA is built on a foundation of legal and ethical practices. We want to assure every member of the following:
- Legal Standing: All our internal communications and organised actions are conducted in accordance with the legal frameworks governing freedom of expression, association, and privacy in South Africa.
- Dedicated Support: Our Risk Management and Legal Advisory Teams are actively monitoring the situation and are dedicated to protecting members from any form of targeted surveillance, harassment, or legal reprisal.
- A Clear Path for Help: If you feel unsafe, targeted, or have concerns about your privacy due to your involvement with #ReclaimSA, please contact our Risk Management Unit immediately. We have established protocols to provide support and guidance.
A Final Word of Resolve
Let this moment serve not as a warning of fear, but as a reminder of our strength.
We are united.
We are informed.
We will not be intimidated into silence.
Our mission continues, with renewed focus on security and an unwavering commitment to reclaiming the future of our nation, together.
